Who is Ada Gates Patton?

In 1978, Ada became the first woman farrier licensed to shoe thoroughbred racehorses in the United States and Canada.

Her unique status gave her great opportunities including guest appearances on: Late Night with David Letterman, What‘s My Line, To Tell The Truth, and The Today Show. Ada has also been the subject or author of many magazine and news paper articles.

Her dedication to the industry has led to many years of selfless service, including farrier liaison for the 1984 Olympic Games, official horseshoe inspector for the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, member of the California Thoroughbred Foundation Board of Directors, and presenter of various seminars.

In 2008, Ada received the Edward Martin Humanitarian Award at the American Farrier’s Association Convention in Lexington, Kentucky, and has been invited to serve on the Farrier Committee for the Alltech FEI World Games to be held in Lexington, Kentucky, in 2010
